Disabled and Accessibility

Disabled and Accessibility

Barnsley is accommodating for disabled visitors and those with accessibility needs.

It's a place for every visitor.

Make it yours

Enjoy the best of Barnsley no matter your needs, with inclusive accessibility to venues and attractions across the borough.

You can also check whether a building, venue or route is accessible via AccessAble, which also shows you the facilities available on-site or en route.

VISITING MUSEUMS

Barnsley Museums are always working to make their museums more inclusive and accessible, so they can be enjoyed by everyone. Their teams will always be on hand to answer any questions during your visit and welcome your feedback on how they can improve.

Access information can be found for the following venues:

BLUE BADGE HOLDERS

If you’re a Blue Badge holder, you can find parking spaces based on postcode here. Or head to BlueBadgeParking — a free, crowd-sourced, not-for-profit map of accessible parking around the world.

TRAVELLING AROUND

With a disabled person’s travel pass, you can travel for free within South Yorkshire on local bus services, trams and trains and Northern Rail services between South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

You can also use your pass to travel on buses throughout England at off-peak times.

Age UK Barnsley also offers the Access Barnsley service. This service provides visitors with the ability to hire scooters and wheelchairs from their Eldon Street branch. You can find them right next to the Interchange in the Town Centre.

Many taxis and private hire vehicles are wheelchair accessible to get you around Barnsley. You can find a full list of these here.

DISABLED PUBLIC TOILETS

Need the loo while you’re out and about?

There are several public toilets available across Barnsley, some with baby-changing facilities. For those toilets for disabled people only, you’ll need a RADAR key.

You can find public toilets here:

  • • The Glass Works, Barnsley Town Centre
  • • Barnsley Markets, Barnsley Town Centre
  • • Cannon Hall, Cawthorne
  • • Elsecar Park
  • • Locke Park, Kingston
  • • Penistone Town Centre

Always check the venue for opening hours and access before attending.
