A taste of Yorkshire: fabulous food recs for RHS Wentworth Woodhouse visitors

As visitors from all over the UK descend on Wentworth Woodhouse for the prestigious RHS show, we felt it only right to point out some of the great spots to grab good food and cold drinks in Barnsley while you’re close by. 

Just a few minutes down the road, Barnsley offers a delightful blend of heritage, culture, and outdoor activities, perfect for every visitor. Make the most of your visit with our suggestions! 

The Key’s 

Over in Hoyland, a short drive from Wentworth, you’ll find the modern gastropub The Keys. A local favourite, the friendly team service locally sourced food, hand crafted cocktails, real ales and more. This spot is definitely one we’d be putting on the list for an evening of good food and drinks. With a cosy pub atmosphere it’s a great way to unwind after a busy day at the flower show!

Brambles Tea Rooms

Nestled in the corner of the popular Elsecar Heritage Centre, Brambles is a quaint and delightful spot to enjoy a light bite to eat, soak up the sun and enjoy more of the great outdoors. From afternoon tea, to hot sandwiches and artisan coffee we’d recommend adding this to your list for a peaceful lunch break. Only a six minute drive, or 45 minute countryside walk from Wentworth Woodhouse, you can continue to connect with nature in this vibrant yet traditional village.

Elephant and Castle

If you’re after classic pub vibes with a friendly twist, the Elephant and Castle is a must-visit. Based over in Hemingfield, this local favourite is full of character, serving up traditional dishes you’d expect (think hearty Sunday roasts and mouth-watering burgers) plus some exciting seasonal specials that keep things interesting. Don’t forget the drinks! There’s a great selection of fantastic cocktails, iced lattes, larger and ciders for raising a glass with friends after a day at the RHS show. Whether you’re popping in for a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner, the Elephant and Castle has you covered.

For those heading to Elsecar, the local number 7 bus runs every hour from Wentworth, offering a comfortable and reliable way to reach the Elsecar Heritage Centre and its nearby cafés and pubs. If you prefer to take in the scenery, there’s also the option of a picturesque countryside walk!
